Thank you for your prayers and support and know that whatever the situation looks like regarding our state regulations for schools, we will be ready to teach and to provide a quality education to our students. St. Joseph School is currently using the following programs in our classrooms.
Regarding students staying home due to illness.
We are not providing virtual instruction to students as a regular virtual/online school. Online instruction will only be available when agreed to by the teacher and administration. Generally this would be for:
1. Students who test positive for COVID-19 but have no symptoms and must quarantine
2. Students who are waiting for a test result or are required to quarantine according to Benton Franklyn Health Department policies.
When students are sick with a common cold, flu, or other “non-Covid” illness, we expect them to stay home, get better, and contact their teachers for any missing assignments once they return to school.
Google Classroom
Google Classroom - Students also are provided with school email accounts through and are also members of Google classroom where they will receive assignments and instruction. Google classroom is a tool teachers can use to hold chats, answer questions, share videos, and where students can collaborate on projects. Students will use the google suite of tools similar to Microsoft Office. You may see them using Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms as they do their classwork and save it in Google Drive.
Jupiter Ed.
Parents and students can track grades and assignments using our student and parent portals with Jupiter Ed. Jupiter Ed is our primary student information system. It will be increasingly used for student assignments and instruction and can be used in tandem with Google Classroom.
Google Meets
Google Meets - When we are not able to be in class personally, our school uses Google Meets to hold online virtual sessions. It doesn’t take long for students to figure out how to use Google Meets. This fall Google plans on providing the ability to have small group sessions within Google meets as well.
IXL
IXL is an additional program that many of our classes use to supplement classroom instruction. IXL personalizes instruction so that as students do their IXL assignments the program tracks their work and adjusts instruction to help students understand concepts that may be difficult for them.
Future Applications
We will continue to seek out ways to learn regardless of where students are. That means we’ll no doubt find new programs that will help us improve student learning. St. Joseph Catholic School will be open to the future of education. Our students are worth the effort.
