"We choose to send our children to St. Joseph’s Catholic School because it is a wonderful community of caring, like-minded people who share our faith and values.  We feel it is an important long term investment in our children’s future to be in a learning environment where faith is the center, expectations are high and there is emphasis on formation of the whole child."

Philosophy of St. Joseph’s Catholic School

St. Joseph’s Catholic School is a compassionate Catholic Community, in a tradition of academic excellence, and strives to:

  • Foster a Christian environment of family and friendship.
  • Educate children in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, in the Catholic tradition.
  • Prepare children for leadership in Church and society through a sound and challenging basic academic curriculum.
  • Enable each child to recognize his or her self-worth.
  • Encourage each child to internalize the values of self-discipline, mutual respect, personal morality, social justice, and right stewardship of the earth.
  • Nurture each individual’s natural desire to learn.
School Wide Learning Expectations Students at St. Joseph's Catholic School will grow in: Mind Demonstrate a strong foundation in core subjects Are active participants in their own learning with a strong work ethic Use good judgment in decision-making Are respectful toward authority Use technology morally and appropriately according to Christian values Body Act as an example of what Jesus would do Are self-disciplined and responsible for their own actions Work cooperatively with others, respecting others' differences Know their body is a gift from God and make healthy choices Spirit Demonstrate an understanding of the Catholic faith and tradition Are prayerful and reverent during prayer Serve others, showing concern for all people and the environment

A capital campaign was begun in 1958 by Monsignor Skeehan to build a school at St. Joseph's Parish in Kennewick.  This vision for Catholic education in Kennewick is at the heart of the mission of the Church and the great commission of Jesus who said “Go forth and make disciples of all nations.”  At its original founding, in the 1964-65 school year, the school was run by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

What parents are saying...

St. Joseph’s Catholic School isn’t just about excellence in academics. It’s being free to live, learn and grow in our Catholic faith, in order to fully become all God calls us to be. We are confident that in taking these steps towards providing a “complete” education, aimed at developing  strong  intellectual, ethical and spiritual leaders, we are making a difference not only in the lives of our children but also in our world in which we live- and in the life to come."
